How a Co-op Works
In recent years it has been recognized that preschool provides children with opportunities to enjoy many activities not afforded at home; to express themselves creatively through a wide variety of art and music activities, to learn techniques of getting along with others, to acquire self-discipline and to discover the joys of learning and teamwork.
A cooperative preschool is run by the parents and families of the children who attend. The work you invest is rewarded by the opportunity to become an active part of your child’s education, meet other dedicated parents, and provide your child with a high quality education at a very reasonable price. One parent or other representative of the family is responsible for working as a teacher’s aid in the classroom approximately 5 weeks out of the school year and is supervised by our experienced staff. We do require each parent or representative have a current TB test on file. Parents work together and often trade work days to accommodate their own personal schedules. Also in addition to having fun helping in the classroom, families contribute to maintenance of the school and attend a few mandatory events during the year. These include the Parent Orientation Luncheon in September, the Ice Cream Social Fundraiser, and the Christmas Workshop.
